Sunday Sunday
Confession: I love Sundays. Sundays are my favorite day of the week. I think you probably think you know why Sunday is my favorite day of the week, but here’s why I love Sundays.
- I get to see a group of people trying to out-serve each other!
- Our tech team does everything possible to make Gregg and me look good. That’s hard to do!
- Our greeters have smiles like the people at the end of the orbitz commercials!
- Our Kidzu children’s ministry has some adults that can’t wait for the day that everyone of those kids accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior!
- Our worship band always brings excellence, and it’s b/c they’re growing as worshippers themselves. This morning we did a new song called “You Deserve” Ummm…it was ridiculous.
- This morning we got to celebrate that some students had their lives change forever, for the better while on their Hydration Retreat.
- This morning we started a new series in a 2nd year movement called “One Prayer“
- Our theme for the movement is “God is…”
- For Gregg, God is like the wind! We’d rather be a blade of grass in harmony with the Spirit of God than a palm tree by ourselves.
- For me, God is Bigger. There’s no greater compliment to describe God. The word we translate as “great” in the Bible also means “more.” God’s more than any descriptor. God’s more than any problem. God’s more than (you fill-in-the-blank)!
- We also announced our “Insane Campaign.” We’re seeking $200K in 2 months. It’s insane, but God’s bigger. Remember what happened when Moses called on a freewill offering in Exodus 35? Well, Exodus 36 tells us that they received so much more than they needed that Mo had to tell them to stop bringing from what they have! I told our folks that I wanted to be the first church in the history of the modern area to have the stereotype of having to tell people not to bring money.
After church, I typically rest for a while, but not today. I had to attend a pre-conference district meeting. That’s a bunch of UMC jargon that shouldn’t concern you. The meeting was almost 2 hours long. There was some good talk and bad talk. The bad talk was really just a reflection of what’s going on in the economy and how it’s effecting our denominational budget. Let’s just say that Dave Ramsey wouldn’t be pleased with the way my Conference budgets money!
When I returned my kids were longing to go to the pool. Liz took Cade and ran errands. I took 3 kids under 5 to the pool. It was a great time of recreation and fellowship. I got to see 3 of my favorite people! It’s Sunday afternoon hang-out time with the family that ends a nearly perfect day, Sunday!
Need to confess?
